PBI Honduras in 2022: accompanying in times of change

The year 2022 was a year of change for Honduras: it was the first time in the country's history that a woman assumed the presidency. For PBI Honduras, 2022 was also a year of change, but above all a year of growth: we began to accompany the organisations SOMOS CDC and ARCAH and we increased the number of activities carried out compared to 2021.

Cuarenta años después de la fundación de Brigadas Internacionales de Paz y nueve años después de la llegada de PBI a Honduras, seguimos acompañando de manera integral a organizaciones y personas defensoras de derechos humanos en riesgo: “La presencia internacional es el chaleco antibalas de las comunidades indígenas” (Donald Hernández, coordinador de CEHPRODEC).

When the protests first began in Guapinol, Juana Ramona Zúñiga was in a meeting with the community council. She received a call; they wanted her to join a demonstration in the street. “The struggle is contagious.

The fight for the next generation

María Felicita López is an indigenous feminist leader from the Department of La Paz, Honduras and works with the Independent Indigenous Movement of La Paz, Honduras (MILPAH). For many years she has fought for human rights, women’s rights, and in defence of the environment in her native Department, La Paz.

Una lucha para la próxima generación

María Felicita López es una lideresa indígena feminista del Departamento de La Paz, Honduras y trabaja en la organización Movimiento Independiente Indígena Lenca de la Paz, Honduras (MILPAH). Desde hace muchos años es activista para los derechos humanos, los derechos de las mujeres y el medio ambiente en el departamento que la vio nacer. En La Paz actualmente hay 4 concesiones hidroeléctricas y al menos 26 planes de manejo y permisos ambientales para la explotación de madera.
